July 10, 2005

LONDON (Reuters) – The security threat which forced police
to evacuate 20,000 people from central Birmingham overnight was
serious and specific in terms of time and location, British
police said on Sunday.

“We haven’t had this level of threat before (in
Birmingham),” West Midlands police chief constable Paul
Scott-Lee told a news conference as the city began to get back
to normal. “The people of Birmingham were in danger last
night.”
