ST ANDREWS, Scotland (Reuters) - American Tiger Woods won the 134th British Open on Sunday by five shots with a 14-under-par 274 total.
It was 29-year-old Woods's 10th career major tournament victory and his second Open success. He also won at St Andrews five years ago.
Woods had led from the first round and although his lead was briefly cut to one stroke by Briton Colin Montgomerie and Spain's Jose Maria Olazabal, he was never headed on the final day in a closing 70. He pockets just under $1.25 million.
The world number one won the U.S. Masters in April and was second in the U.S. Open in June. He now lies third in the all-time list of major winners behind Jack Nicklaus (18) and Walter Hagen (11).
