Vietnam-era U.S. commander Westmoreland dies
MIAMI (Reuters) – Gen. William Westmoreland, who led U.S.
troops in Vietnam from 1965 until 1968, has died at age 91.
Westmoreland, under whose command the number of U.S.
fighting men rose from just a few thousand to more than
500,000, died at the Bishop Gadsden retirement community, in
Charleston, South Carolina on Monday night, said Linda Maines,
the night supervisor at the home.
“He died at 10 p.m.,” Maines said.
