NEW YORK (Reuters) - After weakening Monday as it moved across Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula, Hurricane Emily continued to get better organized on Tuesday as it entered warmer waters in the western Gulf of Mexico, the U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami said.
As of 8 a.m. EDT (1200 GMT), Emily, which was still a Category 1 storm with maximum sustained winds near 90 mph, was located about 265 miles southeast of Brownsville, Texas.
The forecast track for Emily still had the storm making landfall early Wednesday on the northeast coast of Mexico, not far from the border with Texas.
Rainfall accumulations of 5 to 10 inches are possible over the lower Rio Grande Valley of South Texas and northeastern Mexico, with isolated maximum amounts of 15 inches possible.
