Denver Plastic Surgeon Dr. Gregory A. Buford Prefers Superior Results with Silicone Implants
The most recent statistics from the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery show that 40% of plastic surgeons in the United States are using silicone gel implants for breast augmentation following the re-approval of silicone implants by the U. S. Food and Drug Administration over four years ago. At his Denver plastic surgery practice, Beauty by Buford, Dr. Gregory Buford recently discussed his preference for silicone implants, and how he educates his patients to ensure they make the right choice for their specific aesthetic enhancement needs.

According to the most recent data from the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), 40% of plastic surgeons in the U. S. use silicone gel implants for breast augmentation, following the FDA’s re-approval of silicone implants after a 14-year moratorium to further study the effects of silicone on the human body. The ASAPS study also revealed that the most common factor in determining the choice of one type of implant over the other was patient preference. Dr. Gregory Buford, a board-certified plastic surgeon in Denver, recently discussed saline and silicone implants, as well as his preference for silicone implants, as he says they provide superior, more natural-looking results. However, he says the decision process is as unique as each of his patients, and centers on their own personal preferences. Dr. Buford adds that while this is true for all plastic surgery procedures he performs, including the facelift and Denver breast lift, patients express additional concern about the type of implants, as well as the overall safety of saline and silicone. In the end, as demonstrated by an overwhelming international preference for silicone that is more closely aligned with his professional expertise, Dr. Buford says silicone gel is simply a better option.
When considering Denver breast augmentation, while both saline and silicone implants have similarities such as an outer silicone shell, both have separate benefits, and differ in material and consistency. Dr. Buford says a major difference present in silicone implants is the gel component, which he feels more closely resembles the look and feel of natural breast tissue. Regardless of the type of implant chosen, Dr. Buford says a decision is made only after all options have been discussed and properly weighed through the consultation process.
Whether performing a breast augmentation or tummy tuck in Denver, Dr. Buford says he takes the time to educate his patients to ensure their needs and expectations are met through a well-informed surgical aesthetic enhancement plan. He adds that discussing the type of implant to be used, as well as each patient’s overall cosmetic enhancement goals, is the first step in the plastic surgery process. However, Dr. Buford stresses that he feels silicone gel implants provide a much more natural result when a patient decides to undergo Denver breast enlargement.
