November 17, 2010

Since 2007, an increasing number of businesses have signed a joint statement in advance of the annual UN climate change summits. Business leaders such as Barclays, Cisco, Coca Cola, Kodak, SAP, Shell, and Actio have signed the communiqués to indicate support for climate control initiatives.

The communiqués synthesize key thinking from the business community and aim to build momentum for progress in international negotiations. The Cancun Communique will be another motion reflecting the will of the greater business community.

“Actio supports environmental initiatives towards more sustainable industry,” said Russ McCann, President and CEO of Actio. “Every day, Actio helps to green manufacturing processes and supply chains by creating software tools for product stewardship and risk management.

“We make it a point to participate in relevant global discussions,” said McCann. “Lately, we’ve been able to actively participate in sustainability initiatives around green chemistry, safe sourcing, and now emissions accounting.”

“Actio signed the Copenhagen Communiqué last year and the Cancun Communiqué this year,” said Kathleen Hurley, Director of Corporate Communications at Actio. “In fact, we just ran a blog piece about our experience at COP 10, when the Kyoto Protocol was ratified. It’s called My Time in Buenes Aires for the United Nations Conference of Parties.”

The Cancun Communiqué is an initiative of The Prince of Wales’s Corporate Leaders’ Group on Climate Change, which is run by the University of Cambridge Programme for Sustainability Leadership. Cheers to the Programme for the effort.
