Chiefs' Priest Holmes Breaks TD Record

Priest Holmes scored his NFL-record 26th touchdown rushing Sunday in the second quarter of Kansas City's game against Chicago.
Holmes, 30, took a handoff on the 1-yard line, went wide left, bounced back inside behind Tony Richardson's block and strutted the final couple of steps.
He broke the single-season record Emmitt Smith set in 1995 with Dallas and also tied the overall record for touchdowns set by Marshall Faulk of the St. Louis Rams in 2000.
The short, powerfully built Texas native came into the game leading all running backs with 6,510 yards of total offense since 2001, the year he signed with Kansas City as an unrestricted free agent.
When he underwent hip surgery last spring, Holmes set the touchdown record as his 2003 goal. With a 24-yard scoring run against San Diego in the opener, he put an immediate end to speculation the surgery seriously diminished his skills.
He had only two touchdown run of more than 15 yards and 17 were 5 yards or shorter. The longest was a 31-yard run against Pittsburgh.
