June 9, 2011

Harrell & Associates Ltd. launches an internet survey to study how “food addiction” and other addictions are connected. The survey is open to women and men aged 18 years and older anywhere in the world.

San Luis Obispo, CA (PRWEB) June 07, 2011

Dr. W. Andrew Harrell, a social psychologist, professor emeritus of the University of Alberta and founder of Harrell & Associates, Ltd., and Dr. Jennifer A. Boisvert, a clinical psychologist specializing in body image, eating and weight problems, invite adult women and men aged 18 years and older to complete a health questionnaire on eating and health risk behavior.

The data gathered from this eating and health risk behavior survey will shed light on how “food addiction” and other addictions such as smoking, drinking or using drugs are connected. The survey data will look at how overeating or “food addiction” may be related to other impulsive behaviors such as smoking, drinking or using drugs.

“Research suggests that people’s response to high-sugar and high-fat foods may be similar to their response to drug use in that the brain’s pleasure center is triggered. This response may also extend to alcohol and nicotine use. We want to learn more about how people’s eating habits such as overeating and their “Ëœbad habits’ such as smoking, drinking and using drugs may be connected in terms of their feeling rewarded or satisfied,” say Drs. Harrell and Boisvert.

“The survey will help us to identify factors that increase people’s risk for unhealthy eating or becoming overweight. These data will help us to understand if people who overeat also have “Ëœbad habits’ that can jeopardize people’s health. These data are also important in light of the global obesity epidemic,” say Drs. Harrell and Boisvert.

Harrell & Associates Ltd. is the first website to gather data from around the world in the aim of studying how “food addiction” and other addictions are connected. Harrell & Associates Ltd., an independent research group that conducts scientific research, is not allied with the diet industry.

The brief survey, approved by a University Research Ethics Board, takes less than 10 minutes to complete. Responses to the online survey are COMPLETELY ANONYMOUS. To get more information about the survey or to complete it ANONYMOUSLY, visit: http://www.harrellandassociatesltd.com.
