The HensonFuerst Cycling Team is the top fundraising team for the American Diabetes Association’s North Carolina Tour de Cure for the third year in a row. Comprised of 45 cyclists, the team raised joined hundreds of fellow cyclists as they rode to raise funds and awareness for the ADA during the Tour on June 4 and 5 and raised impressive $33,526″”exceeding their goal of $25,000. Furthermore, two of the team’s members were the event’s top two individual fundraisers. Doug Boggie raised $10,100 and David MacDonald raised $5,800.

The team was led by HensonFuerst attorney Thomas Henson Jr., who also served as this year’s event Chair and helped manage the subcommittees that organized the event, recruited riders, and raised funds.

“We are honored to have HensonFuerst as such a committed and dedicated partner in our fight to stop diabetes, and we are proud of their impressive fundraising efforts this year,” said Katie-Rose Darby, associate manager at the North Carolina chapter of the American Diabetes Association. “This event would not have been a success without the leadership of our 2011 Chair, Thomas Henson.”

“The Tour de Cure is important because it shows what a dedicated group of people can do when faced with a challenge,” said Henson, who was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at age 9 and has participated in the event since 2005. “Whether that challenge is someone with diabetes riding 150 miles for the first time, a team faced with achieving their fundraising goal, or the Tour Executive Committee pulling off such a logistically complicated event, great things happen when motivated people come together.”

The HensonFuerst Cycling Team has raised more than $70,000 during the last four Tours and was named one of the national Tour de Cure Top 100 Fundraisers for the past two years. Henson invites anyone who is interested in supporting the Tour by riding or volunteering to email him at ThomasHenson(at)LawMed(dot)com.

“The North Carolina Tour de Cure Executive Committee set a five-year goal of recruiting 2,000 cyclists and raising $1 million annually,” Henson said. “This year’s event serves as a great foundation for achieving those goals.”
