June 30, 2011

Last week FDAImports.com and ExportToUsa.com.cn hosted a series of free FDA regulatory training sessions in Beijing and Shanghai, China for Chinese companies exporting FDA-regulated goods to the United States. Over 70 people attended the training sessions from over 30 companies including companies on FDA import alert, companies seeking first-time access to the U.S. market, and companies with a long, successful track record of exporting products to the U.S. Benjamin England, former FDA Regulatory Counsel and founder and CEO of FDAImports.com, along with former USDA/FSIS expert consultant John Wu, presented valuable insights and regulatory compliance tips on the topics of FDA detentions, import alerts, FDA refusals and legal compliance benefits. This was a rare opportunity for Chinese companies and business leaders to hear specific and applicable advice regarding FDA and USDA import regulations.

“I have always been impressed by the Chinese manufacturing sector’s commitment to identifying and complying with U.S. law,” Mr. England said. “This training event was no exception. I was pleased to be able to provide useful counsel and advice to Chinese exporters helping them think through and overcome obstacles presented by U.S. regulatory requirements. The food and the company were also very good ““ as usual.”

Mr. England touched on some of the new FDA requirements and regulations coming out of the recent Food Safety Modernization Act. “Everyone has been notably worried about the “Ëœnew FDA’, the “Ëœnew FDA requirements’, the new “ËœFood Safety Modernization Act,’” said Mr. England. “It was good to set Chinese manufacturers and exporters at ease with the fact that the “Ëœnew FDA’, if it ever comes into existence, will prove to be a real trade benefit for companies that understand and comply with the requirements.”

It’s not often that American companies can engage, network and strategize with foreign companies on their own soil. These training sessions afforded all parties a unique opportunity to interact in a powerful way. “As we expand the services of ExporttoUSA.com.cn and FDAImports.com into China, we are pleased that so many Chinese food, drug, cosmetic and medical device companies have trusted us to provide them with the critical counsel and advice to succeed in the U.S. marketplace,” said CEO Benjamin England. “Few companies can overcome the obstacles created by FDA, Customs, USDA, and EPA under the same regulatory consulting roof. Finding the way through”¦It’s what we do.”

Benjamin L. England is a former 17-year veteran of the FDA and served as the Regulatory Counsel to the Associate Commissioner for Regulatory Affairs. Currently he is founder and CEO of FDAImports.com, LLC, a firm of consultants and affiliated attorneys practicing at the intersections of complex administrative law and regulations that impact international traders in highly regulated commodities.
