Power out in New York suburbs after weekend storms
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Close to 50,000 electric power
customers in the Western and Northern suburbs of New York were
without electric power Monday morning after a weekend of severe
Public Service Electric and Gas Co. in New Jersey said
early that it had about 30,000 customers without power. The
utility said it had restored power to about 54,000 customers.
Connecticut Light and Power, which had reported more than
23,000 customers without power early Monday, issued an updated
count of 16,000 customers without power later Monday morning.
A spokesman for Connecticut Light & Power said about 70
repair crews including those from sister companies and private
contractors were working to restore power. He said the utility
hoped to have power back on later on Monday.
Pubic Service, part of Public Service Enterprise Group
Inc., said it was working to restore power by Tuesday evening.
