Briny Baird bogeyed consecutive holes Sunday to fall into a tie for the lead with Skip Kendall, Jonathan Kaye and John Rollins after the completion of the suspended third round of the rain-soaked Buick Classic.
Baird, 11 under through six holes when play was suspended Saturday, had a three-putt bogey on the 314-yard 10th hole, and dropped another shot on No. 11 as the sun broke through the clouds above the saturated Westchester Country Club course.
Winless in four seasons on the PGA Tour, Baird parred the final seven holes for a 1-over 72, leaving him tied with Kendall (70), Kaye (68) and Rollins (67) at 9-under 204.
Sergio Garcia, who won the rainy 2001 tournament in a Monday finish, capped a bogey-free 66 with a two-putt birdie on the par-5 18th to join Fred Funk (64), Alex Cejka (66) and Joey Sindelar (70) at 8 under. Funk played the final eight holes of the front nine in 4 under, with five birdies and a bogey.
Tiger Woods, winless since March, was three strokes back after a 71. He had two-putt birdies on the par-5 ninth and 18th holes and bogeyed the 15th.
The players remained in their third-round groups for the final round, with threesomes starting on both the first and 10th tees.
