NEW YORK (Reuters) - The derailment of a CSX Corp. freight train in New York City has forced the cancellation of long-distance Amtrak passenger train service between New York and Boston, Amtrak said on Wednesday.
CSX spokeswoman Misty Skipper said four freight cars derailed Tuesday morning in New York's Bronx borough, damaging overhead electrical lines. Three of the cars were empty and the fourth carried plywood, she said.
There were no injuries.
Amtrak said the cancellation of Acela and Metroliner services, which are powered by overhead cables, is in effect Wednesday and Thursday, while the rail network works to restore electrical power.
Regional trains, relying on diesel engines, are operating on normal schedules, Amtrak said, with delays of up to 45 minutes between New York and New Haven, Connecticut.
