JetBlue flight makes emergency landing in L.A.

September 21, 2005

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – A JetBlue airliner with a crippled
nose gear and 145 people on board made a successful emergency
landing on Wednesday at Los Angeles International Airport after
circling the California coast for about three hours to burn off
as much fuel as possible.

Television images of the landing, carried live on a number
of U.S. networks, showed the pilot ease the plane down onto the
airport’s longest runway as smoke and sparks shot from the nose
gear before the plane came to a rest without further incident.

Fire and emergency crews immediately surrounded the Airbus
A320 jet, which had been en route to New York from Burbank,
California.
