Baghdad car bomb kills at least two

September 23, 2005

BAGHDAD (Reuters) – A suicide bomber in a car blew himself
up at a bus station in central Baghdad on Friday, killing at
least two people and wounding 17, police said.

The bomber, who died in the blast, was carrying passengers
in his vehicle when he detonated a belt with explosives
strapped to his waist, the police said.

The explosion took place in the Baab al-Sharjee area, where
insurgents frequently target U.S. and Iraqi troops.

Muslim militants and former members of toppled president
Saddam Hussein’s intelligence and security networks are waging
a guerrilla campaign of bombings and assassinations in a bid to
topple Iraq’s U.S.-backed government.

Insurgents have killed thousands of security forces,
officials and civilians.
