September 23, 2005
BAGHDAD (Reuters) – A suicide bomber in a car blew himself
up at a bus station in central Baghdad on Friday, killing at
least five people and wounding 17, police said.
The bomber was carrying passengers in his vehicle when he
detonated a belt with explosives strapped to his waist, the
police said.
The explosion took place in the Baab al-Sharjee area, where
insurgents frequently target U.S. and Iraqi troops.
Muslim militants and former members of toppled president
Saddam Hussein’s intelligence and security networks are waging
a guerrilla campaign of bombings and assassinations in a bid to
topple Iraq’s U.S.-backed government.
Insurgents have killed thousands of police, soldiers,
officials and civilians.
