Bush to be briefed on US energy supply

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President George W. Bush will be
briefed at an Energy Department meeting Monday morning on the
effect of Hurricane Rita on U.S. energy supply, the White House

After the scheduled 40-minute meeting, Bush is set to make
a statement on domestic energy supplies at 10:55 a.m. EDT (1455

White House spokesman Scott McClellan, speaking to
reporters on Sunday aboard Air Force One during Bush's flight
back to Washington from Louisiana, played down the impact of
Rita on refineries and offshore oil rigs.

Citing preliminary assessments, McClellan said, "The
refineries were okay. There wasn't significant damage. And with
the oil rigs from Rita, they are still assessing that. But it
certainly was not as significant as the damage from Katrina."
