Subway fire strands New York City commuters
October 21, 2005
NEW YORK (Reuters) – Fire in a subway storage room forced
the suspension of major New York City underground rail lines on
Friday, temporarily stranding thousands of morning commuters.
No injuries were reported, a Fire Department spokesman
said.
Smoke filled the station at West Fourth Street and Avenue
of the Americas in Manhattan, forcing the suspension of
numerous subway lines that intersect at the station, a
spokesman for the transit authority said.
