LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Eight months after actor Robert
Blake was acquitted of criminal murder charges in the shooting
death of his wife, a civil court jury on Friday found him
liable for her slaying in a wrongful death suit brought by her
children and ordered him to pay $30 million in damages.

The ruling capped eight days of deliberations in an 11-week
civil trial. The 72-year-old former star of the 1970s TV
detective show “Baretta” was ordered to pay the damages for for
the death of his spouse, Bonny Lee Bakley.

Blake’s co-defendant in the case, former bodyguard and
handyman Earle Caldwell, was cleared of allegations in the
lawsuit that he conspired with the actor to kill his wife.
