Israeli air strike on Gaza car kills 4 militants

December 14, 2005

GAZA (Reuters) – An Israeli air strike killed at least four
Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip on Wednesday, witnesses
and military spokesmen said.

They said the attack targeted a car carrying members of the
Popular Resistance Committees (PRC), a coalition of Palestinian
militants, near the Karni Crossing between the Gaza Strip and
Israel.

Witnesses and medics said at least three of the dead were
from the PRC. They said the fourth may have been from the
al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, an armed wing of Palestinian
President Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah faction.

A fifth occupant of the car, and two bystanders, were hurt.

An Israeli military spokesman said the militants were en
route to carry out an attack against Israel.

Wednesday’s incident was the latest in a series of deadly
air strikes against militants who Israel has accused of
involvement in cross-border rocket strikes and other attacks.

Israel renewed targeted strikes after a Palestinian suicide
bombing killed five Israelis on December 5.
