NY court fines transit union $1mln a day
December 20, 2005
NEW YORK (Reuters) – A New York state court found the union
leading the city’s bus and subway strike in contempt of court
after it called the stoppage on Tuesday, and ordered the union
to pay a fine of $1 million a day.
Under a state law, public sector workers are prohibited
from going on strike and the City obtained an injunction last
week against any strike by the Transporters Workers Union Local
100, which represents some 34,000 subway and bus workers.
