Spending-cut bill likely on hold in House until '06

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. House of Representatives has no plans to return early from its long winter break to pass a $39.7 billion spending cut bill that was amended on Wednesday by the Senate, an aide to Acting House Majority Leader Roy Blunt said.
"There are no plans to call members back" until January 31, said Jessica Boulanger, a spokeswoman for Blunt. She did not rule out a change in plans, however.
The House passed the spending-cut bill on Monday and the Senate passed it on Wednesday, but not before it made some minor changes that require House approval. The delay in final passage does not have an impact on day-to-day operations of the federal government.
