Report: Tiger Woods Engaged

Tiger Woods and his Swedish girlfriend Elin Nordegren got engaged during a safari vacation in South Africa, a Swedish newspaper reported Friday.

Tabloid Expressen said Nordegren’s father confirmed the engagement.

“She called this morning and was incredibly happy,” Thomas Nordegren, a correspondent for Swedish Radio in Washington, was quoted as saying. “I only spoke shortly with them on the telephone but they were happy and I congratulated them.”

Thomas Nordegren could not immediately be reached for comment.

The South African Broadcasting Corp. said Woods popped the question at the luxury Shamwari game park, where the couple went to relax after the President’s Cup tournament at Fancourt, which finished Sunday.

The station said the couple spent the night under the stars in sleeping bags and prepared their own food.

Wood and his entourage later left Port Elizabeth, South Africa, via Barbados to the United States, SABC reported.

Expressen said the date and location of the wedding were not disclosed, but that it was likely to take place in Sweden.

Woods and Nordegren, a Swedish model, have been dating for nearly two years.
