US jet fighter ditches off Australian coast: media

CANBERRA (Reuters) - A U.S. jet fighter ditched in the
ocean off the northeast coast of Australia after attempting a
night landing on aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan, Australian
Broadcasting Corp. (ABC) reported on Monday.

The pilot of the FA-18 Hornet strike plane ejected and was
rescued by the ship's helicopter, U.S. officials told ABC. The
aircraft was on a training exercise when it ditched about 200
km (124 miles) southeast of Brisbane on Sunday.
