Nigeria bird flu is deadly H5N1 strain

LONDON (Reuters) – An outbreak of bird flu among poultry in
Nigeria is the H5N1 strain that can kill people, the World
Organization for Animal Health (OIE) said in a statement on
Wednesday, the first time the virus has been found in Africa.
“The OIE/FAO reference laboratory for Avian Influenza in
Padova (Italy) has characterized the isolate as a highly
pathogenic H5N1,” the OIE said in a statement.
