No-Hit Bid by Hampton Broken Up in 8th

Marlon Byrd singled with one out in the eighth inning for the Philadelphia Phillies to break up a no-hit bid by Atlanta’s Mike Hampton.
Atlanta had led 2-0 on two solo home runs by Gary Sheffield. But the Phillies tied it in the bottom of the 8th on a two-RBI single by Placido Polanco.
Vicente Padilla started for Philadelphia. Turk Wendall pitched the 8th and Jose Mesa has come on for the 9th inning.
