Blast at Israeli arms research facility: medics
JERUSALEM (Reuters) – Israel’s main arms research facility
was hit by an explosion on Monday that caused several
casualties, the Magen David Adom ambulance service said.
It said the blast occurred near the entrance to the Rafael
arms research facility near the northern city of Haifa. It was
not immediately clear what caused the explosion.
Rafael, the Israel Armament Development Authority, develops
some of Israel’s most sophisticated weapons systems, including
missiles and drones.
Israel Radio said details of the blast were sketchy and it
could have been caused by an accident. There was no immediate
suggestion the explosion was a Palestinian attack.
The ambulance service reported that several people were
hurt. Army Radio reported multiple injuries.
