“Crash” wins best film Oscar
March 5, 2006
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – “Crash,” the film drama that tells
of racial bigotry and fear during a 36-hour period in Los
Angeles, won the best film Oscar on Sunday in an upset victory
over the favorite, gay romance “Brokeback Mountain.”
“Crash” headed into the Oscar ceremony in a neck-and-neck
race with “Brokeback” for the best film award, but “Brokeback”
was favored because it had prevailed in many earlier award
races. The Oscars are given out by the Academy of Motion
Picture Arts and Sciences and are the world’s top film honors.
