Milosevic died of heart failure: preliminary report
THE HAGUE (Reuters) – Former Yugoslav President Slobodan
Milosevic died of heart failure, according to a preliminary
autopsy report, the United Nations war crimes tribunal said on
Sunday.
“According to the pathologist, Slobodan Milosevic’s cause
of death was a miocardial infarction,” or heart attack, the
tribunal said in a statement.
Milosevic’s remains will be released to his family on
Monday, the tribunal which was prosecuting him on war crimes
charges added.
The reason for the heart failure was not given and the
tribunal said a toxicology report will still be carried out.
The 64-year-old, who suffered from a heart condition and
high blood pressure, was found dead in his cell on Saturday
months before a verdict was due in his trial on charges of
genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes in the 1990s.
