An earthquake shook buildings in Taiwan’s capital for several seconds Wednesday, but no damage or injuries were immediately reported.

The quake’s magnitude and epicenter were not immediately announced. The tremor was strong enough to gently shake buildings in Taipei for several seconds.

Temblors frequently rattle Taiwan, but most are minor and cause little or no damage. However, a 7.6-magnitude earthquake in September 1999 in central Taiwan killed more than 2,300 people.
