Mar. 26--Cedarburg -- Two armed robbers stole cash from the George Webb restaurant Monday, the second such crime there in less than six weeks, Police Chief Tom Frank said.
In each case, the robbers took less than $200.
Frank said the restaurant, south of downtown on Washington Ave., appeared to have been targeted in both crimes because the robbers knew where cash was stored. He said he could not recall two armed robberies within such a short period in Cedarburg, which typically records less than one armed robbery per year.
According to Frank:
Two armed men entered the rear of the restaurant about 9:15 p.m. and stole money from the cash register, customers and a cash storage area.
Witnesses said one suspect was described as a black male, age 18 to 22, 5-feet-9 and 175 pounds, carrying a semi-automatic handgun. He was wearing a white T-shirt, a black nylon parka with a furry hood and baggy blue jeans, and he carried a dark-colored bag with a drawstring that he put money into. The other suspect was a Hispanic male, about 16 years old, 5-feet-7 and 130 pounds, carrying a tire iron. He was wearing a black flannel zippered jacket and blue jeans. He also was wearing a black and white bandanna that covered his face.
Frank said a police dog tracked the suspects south to Pioneer Road, where investigators believe they got into a vehicle.
Anyone with information is asked to call Cedarburg police at (262) 375-7620.
In the previous armed robbery, a masked man brandishing a blue handgun robbed the restaurant shortly before 5 a.m. Feb. 3. No customers were in the restaurant at the time, but the robber stole cash from the cash register and attempted to enter an area where cash was stored, but the area was locked.
Frank said that while the two armed robberies could be related, it appears that an attempted armed robbery at about 4:15 a.m. Feb. 1 is not related. In that incident, on the Interurban Trail just west of the George Webb, a man was struck over the head, possibly with a pellet gun.
Before the George Webb armed robberies, the last armed robbery in Cedarburg occurred Dec. 31, 2004, at Ozaukee Bank.
