Bag near San Francisco Federal Reserve raises alarm
March 27, 2006
SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) – A suspicious suitcase found near
the San Francisco Federal Reserve Bank on Monday prompted
police to reroute traffic and evacuate some nearby shops.
“We’re still in the building,” said Carol Eckert, a
spokeswoman for the bank where about 1,200 people work in
central San Francisco. “We’ve closed the front doors. We can
still exit in other ways.”
Police rerouted traffic and BART subway trains skipped the
nearest station. A police spokesman said some stores on Market
Street had been evacuated as an investigation continued.
