An 8-year-old boy was shot in the face at a school playground Wednesday and a school crossing guard was wounded in the foot, police said.
The victims were apparently caught in the crossfire as two men shot at each other from separate cars, police department spokesman Cpl. Jim Pauley said.
Police were searching for the gunmen, Pauley said.
The shooting occurred near the Pierce Elementary School, Pauley said.
The boy was in very critical condition at Temple University Hospital, Pauley said. The crossing guard was also hospitalized but her injuries were not believed to be life threatening.
