NEW YORK (Reuters) - American Airlines said on Wednesday it would give away more than 20,000 flight vouchers to fans at the evening's Dallas Mavericks basketball game, in what it called the largest airline ticket giveaway at a single event.
The unit of AMR Corp said another 1,000 fans watching the game on television could win vouchers if they participated in a text-message promotion on their mobile telephones.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Fort Worth, Texas-based American reported a first quarter loss that was narrower than the year ago figure, beating analysts' estimates.
The giveaway is designed to promote Dallas Love Field Airport, from which the airline recently began flying.
The Mavericks are playing the L.A. Clippers at the American Airlines Center in Dallas.
