Apr. 20--Just a day after the average price of gasoline topped the $3 mark in the Inland area, the price of a gallon of regular, self-serve gasoline hit a record high Wednesday.
The increase drove the average price of regular gas to $3.036 per gallon, up from the $3.03 record set Sept. 9, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California. Additional price increases are expected during the next two to three weeks, which could drive prices as high as $3.20 a gallon, the club said in a statement.
Prices are expected to begin dropping by Memorial Day, as refineries that were affected by Hurricane Katrina last year get back up to speed. Prices typically creep back up close to Labor Day, when the summer driving season hits its peak.
