Six British MPs Killed in Southern Iraq
June 24, 2003
Six British soldiers died in southern Iraq on Tuesday, and eight others were wounded when Iraqis ambushed a patrol and a helicopter.
The circumstances of the deaths were unclear. The slain soldiers were military policemen who were training Iraqi police, Defense Secretary Geoffrey Hoon said in London.
Hoon said initial reports were that the deaths occurred in a police station.
Earlier, a British army spokesman in Basra said Iraqis ambushed the British soldiers.
