SUVA, Fiji (Reuters) – A tsunami warning over an earthquake
that hit the Tonga islands on Thursday was canceled, the
Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, which issued the alert, said on
its Web site.

The warning had said it was not known if a tsunami had been
generated by the 8.1 quake but that any such wave would have
hit Suva and Gisborne, New Zealand.
