US eye fungus infections rise to 122
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. health officials have now
confirmed 122 cases of a fungal infection that may be related
to contact lens use, the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention said on Friday.
Officials are still investigating if any specific factors
may raise the risk of the infection, called Fusarium keratitis,
the CDC said. The outbreak has hurt the fortunes of Bausch &
Lomb Inc., as many patients have reported using Bausch’s ReNu
with MoistureLoc contact lens solution.
