Tropical storm could develop northeast of Bahamas: NHC

NEW YORK (Reuters) - A tropical storm could develop northeast of the Bahamas over the next day or so, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said in an outlook Friday.
Specifically, the NHC said in an update at 5:30 a.m. Eastern time that a "broad and disorganized area of low pressure" a couple hundred miles northeast of the Bahamas could become "a little more favorable for slow development" of such a storm during the next day or so.
The system is drifting west-northwest, avoiding likely avoiding the oil and natural gas fields in the Gulf of Mexico.
Elsewhere, the NHC did not expect any tropical storms to form through Friday.
The Center will call the next storm Beryl.
