Pilot dead after 2 US Navy jets crash in California

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Two U.S. Navy F/A-18 "Hornet" jets
from a base in California collided in mid-air on Monday during
a routine training mission, killing one of the two pilots, the
Navy said.

The fighter-attack aircraft from Naval Air Station Lemoore
were conducting an air-to-air intercepting mission when they
collided in a training area, the Navy said. One pilot ejected
and survived the crash, while the other was killed, the Navy

The cause of the crash is under investigation and the name
of the dead pilot was not released, the Navy said.
