Former astronaut, senator Glenn hurt in car crash
CINCINNATI (Reuters) – Former astronaut and senator John
Glenn and his wife are in fair condition in a Columbus, Ohio,
hospital after being injured in a car accident, a hospital
official said on Saturday.
Glenn, 85, and his wife, Anna, will be released later on
Saturday, said Louis Tejada, a nurse administrator at Grant
Medical Center in Columbus.
“He’s in fair condition,” Tejada said. The Glenns were
admitted late on Friday night after the crash.
Columbus police could not be reached for comment, but the
Columbus Dispatch newspaper reported that Glenn’s car collided
with another Friday night on the northeast side of Columbus.
Glenn was the first U.S. astronaut to orbit Earth. He was
elected U.S. senator for Ohio in 1974 and retired in 1999.
