Pakistan says al Qaeda member held over foiled plot

ISLAMABAD (Reuters) - Pakistan said on Friday it had
arrested an al Qaeda operative who played a key role in a
foiled U.K. bomb plot.

"He is a British citizen of Pakistani origin. He is an al
Qaeda operative with linkages in Afghanistan," Interior
Minister Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao told Reuters.

The man arrested in Pakistan was identified as Rashid Rauf.
British police carried out a wave of arrests that helped thwart
the plot to blow up to 10 aircraft flying from Britain to the
United States.
