UK bomb plot suspects to be charged: report
August 21, 2006
LONDON (Reuters) – About a dozen people arrested over a
suspected plot to blow up several airliners in mid-Atlantic are
to be charged with conspiracy to murder, Sky TV reported on
Monday.
Police declined to comment on the report but said there
would be a statement at 1515 GMT.
The statement will be given by Peter Clarke, head of London
police’s anti-terrorist branch, and Susan Hemming, head of the
Crown Prosecution Service’s counter-terrorism division.
British police said on August 10 they had foiled a plot to
bring down several airliners over the Atlantic. Police are
still holding 23 British Muslims.
Police have searched a number of properties and a large
stretch of woodland near London looking for evidence.
