Montreal-bound bus crashes in NY, 5 killed: report

TORONTO (Reuters) - Five people were killed and dozens
injured after a Montreal-bound Greyhound bus from New York City
overturned on a highway in upstate New York late on Monday.

According to a report on the Canadian Broadcasting Corp.'s
website, the bus veered off Interstate 87 and overturned at
about 6:45 p.m. near Westport, N.Y., which is about 165
kilometers (about 100 miles) south of Montreal.

The bus landed upside down over an embankment. The back and
top of the bus were crushed by the impact of the crash.

Officials at Canada's Foreign Affairs Department were
trying to determine the number of Canadians traveling on the
bus and if any were among the dead.

Officials at local hospitals said many of the injured spoke
only French.
