Ernesto cut to tropical depression over Florida

August 30, 2006

MIAMI (Reuters) – A weakening Tropical Storm Ernesto was
downgraded on Wednesday to tropical depression status by the
U.S. National Hurricane Center.

The downgrade came after the sustained winds of Ernesto,
which came ashore in south Florida on Tuesday as a rainstorm
instead of a dreaded hurricane, dropped to about 35 mph (56
kph).
