Hurricane watch issued for Carolinas: NHC
MIAMI (Reuters) – The U.S. National Hurricane Center issued
a hurricane watch for a portion of coastline from South
Carolina to North Carolina on Thursday as Tropical Storm
Ernesto gained strength over the Atlantic.
Ernesto’s maximum sustained winds had reached 60 mph (95
kph) by 11 a.m. (1500 GMT), below the 74 mph (119-kph)
threshold for it to be classified as a hurricane, the
Miami-based center said, adding that no significant further
strengthening was expected before landfall.
