EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Mathias Kiwanuka returned an interception 32 yards to set up Brandon Jacobs’ 1-yard touchdown run as the New York Giants took a 7-3 lead over the Chicago Bears after one quarter Sunday night in their NFC showdown.

In a game that started in heavy rain with wind gusts of 15-20 mph, the Giants drove 56 yards on the opening possession to the Bears 15 but came away with nothing. A 33-yard field-goal attempt by Jay Feely was wide right.

After the Bears took over on their own 24, Rex Grossman threw a pass while under severe pressure from Fred Robbins and Will Demps and Kiwanuka picked it off and returned it to the Bears 1. Jacobs punched in the score off right tackle on the first play to give the Giants a 7-0 lead with 9:55 remaining.

An interception also set up the Bears’ first score, a 49-yard field goal by Robbie Gould with 5:59 left.

Eli Manning threw a long pass downfield that was intended for Plaxico Burress, but picked off by Charles Tillman and returned 11 yards to the Giants 45.

The Giants got the ball back in the closing seconds when Thomas Jones fumbled and safety Gibril Wilson recovered on the Bears 31.
