INDIANAPOLIS – Joseph Addai ran for a 6-yard touchdown and Adam Vinatieri kicked three field goals to help the Indianapolis Colts take a 16-8 lead over the Kansas City Chiefs heading into the fourth quarter of their AFC wild-card game on Saturday.

The Chiefs finally got on the board with 14 seconds left in the third quarter, when Trent Green directed a 60-yard touchdown drive that culminated in a 6-yard scoring pass to Tony Gonzalez. The Chiefs then completed a two-point conversion.

Colts quarterback Manning was intercepted three times, twice by nemesis Ty Law.

Law intercepted the two-time MVP three times for the New England Patriots during the 2004 AFC Championship game.

Kansas City spoiled a chance to score early in the second quarter after Law returned an interception 43 yards to the Indianapolis 9 yard line. The Colts contained running back Larry Johnson and Green bobbled a snap before Lawrence Tynes missed a 23-yard field goal attempt off the left upright.

The Chiefs’ offense was horrific in the opening two quarters, and they became the first team since 1960 to fail to make a first down in the first half of a playoff game.

The Colts showcased a surprisingly good run defense, holding Johnson – the league’s No. 2 runner with 1,789 yards and 17 touchdowns – to 29 yards on the ground on 12 carries.

This season, Johnson set an NFL record with 416 attempts, a trend four-time AFC South champion Indianapolis (12-4) expected to continue. Atlanta’s Jamal Anderson set the previous mark (410) in 1998 when he led the Falcons to the Super Bowl.
