GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip - The Israeli air force fired two missiles early Monday at a group of Palestinian militants in Gaza City, wounding three people, witnesses said.
The Israeli military had no immediate comment.
Residents said the target was apparently a local Hamas commander. It was not immediately known if he was among the wounded.
The attack took place in the Shajaiyeh neighborhood at the eastern edge of Gaza City, straddling the main north-south road through the narrow strip, not far from the border fence with Israel.
The neighborhood is known as a stronghold of Islamic militants and has come under Israeli attack several times during four years of violence.
Monday's attack was in the context of a five-day Israeli offensive in northern Gaza, aimed at stopping Palestinian rocket fire at Israeli towns just outside the Gaza Strip.
