Buttafuoco to Play Mafia Don in Movie

Posted on: Saturday, 28 June 2003, 06:00 CDT

Joey Buttafuoco, the auto mechanic who gained notoriety after his teenage lover shot his wife in 1992, will play a Mafia don in an upcoming independent film.

Buttafuoco, 47, will star in "Gangsta Mafia," a movie about an Italian crime boss who decides to expand his operations into South Los Angeles.

The film will be produced by Sound Boy Entertainment, the company announced Friday.

Amy Fisher, nicknamed the Long Island Lolita by the New York City tabloids, served seven years in prison for shooting Buttafuoco's wife, Mary Jo, in the face. Fisher was 17 at the time.

Buttafuoco, who pleaded guilty to one count of statutory rape, served six months in jail.

He and his wife later moved to California so he could pursue an acting career. She filed for divorce earlier this year. Buttafuoco told The Associated Press at the time the split was amicable.

He also said he had returned to the auto repair business, although he would still accept the occasional film role. He has appeared in "Finding Forrester" and "Celebrity."
